I was able to visit Winter Quarters for a short bit while I was on site in Fremont, NE. This is where over 3,000 saints stopped to spent the winter of 1846 while on the way to Salt Lake City. I was able to see the Visitor Center, The Mormon Pioneer Cemetary, and the Temple. While I was at the Visitor Center, I was able to see the new Jospeh Smith movie and it was incredible! My favorite part was when Joseph said "The Lord calls us in weakness and qualifies us for the work." 
Hwy 36 in Nebraska follows the "Mormon Trail"
